Assessment Plan

Grade One Assessment Plan

Throughout the year, we will be assessing the students in a variety of ways.  This will include rubrics, checklists, quizzes, spelling tests (snap word check ups), and teacher observations of student participation in various activities such as written tasks, hands on activities and teacher led demonstrations. Your child’s assessments will be either sent home or collected within the students’ portfolio which will be available for viewing at parent teacher interviews and will be sent home at the end of the year.

We believe communication of student learning is key. Therefore, during the course of the year, if there are any concerns regarding your child’s progress, we will contact you through the following forms: notes in the agenda, email, phone calls home, and in person.  Please feel free to communicate any concerns with us that you may have about your child.

Communicating Student Learning (CSL)

Our district uses an online reporting system accessed through your Power School account by clicking the link Communicating Student Learning (CSL).  Students will be assessed on a 1 to 5 scale. Curriculum at a Glance

In Grade 1, we cover all core subjects.  If you would like to see more about what your child will be learning in Grade 1, you can go to the Alberta Education website to see Grade 1 at a glance by following this link:

As well, you can look at our monthly newsletters and eteacher page which will keep you up to date on what we are doing in the classroom. The eteacher page is updated at the end of each week.

Homework and Home Reading

Students in Grade 1 are expected to do 10 minutes of home reading a night.  Our home reading program will begin in October. We will also begin our spelling program in October and it is essential that students practice these words nightly at home in preparation for our weekly spelling checkups on Friday.
